The assessment comes ahead of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
In its latest report on global inequality, called “Takers Not Makers,” Oxfam predicts that at least five trillionaires will emerge in the next ten years, compared to last year’s forecast of just one trillionaire.
The report further underscores the statement of former US President Joe Biden, who last week warned of a “dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a few ultra-wealthy individuals.”
Oxfam also pointed out that the number of people living in poverty has hardly changed since 1990.
This year, the World Economic Forum in Davos gathers around 3,000 participants, including business leaders, academics, government officials and representatives of civil society.
US President-elect Donald Trump, who visited Davos twice during his first term in office, is expected to take part in Thursday’s forum via video link.
Trump, known for promoting the accumulation of wealth, including his own, counts multi-billionaire Elon Musk among his top advisers.
