“The aircraft landed in accordance with standard procedures and everyone on board, including Secretary Hegseth, is safe,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X.
Hegseth was returning from Brussels, where he met with NATO defense ministers today.

This is not the first time that US military planes carrying high-ranking officials have had problems.
Earlier this year, a US Air Force plane carrying Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Munich was forced to return to Washington after experiencing mechanical problems.
