The large aid package includes a significant amount of ammunition, including for advanced surface-to-air missile systems and the HAWK air defense system. It will also provide Stinger missiles and 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, officials said.
The officials, who said they expected a decision to be announced Monday, spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details that have not yet been released.
The new aid was announced after Russia launched a series of attacks on Ukrainian power facilities in recent days, although Ukraine said it had intercepted a significant number of missiles and drones.
Russian and Ukrainian forces are also still locked in a bitter battle over the Russian border region of Kursk, where Moscow has sent thousands of North Korean troops to help retake territory seized by Ukraine, Reuters reports.
