In the organization Tourist Boards of Zenica-Doboj Canton, during the month of October 2025, it was realized FAM TRIP for media representatives – members of the World Association of Journalists and Writers on Tourism (FIJET)whose seat is in Paris. The visit lasted four days, from 19 to 22 October 2025.
The FIJET delegation consisted of 12 professional journalists with many years of experience in the field of tourism, who actively operate in the world market as researchers and analysts of tourist offers around the world. During this visit, ZDK Tourist Board had the honor of hosting journalists from the countries of the Western Balkans – from Ljubljana to Skopje, which gave this event a special regional character.
The idea of realizing this FAM TRIP arose at the beginning of the year, at one of the local tourist fairs, where contact was established with Mr. Đorđe Mihajlović from Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), who was also the leader of the FIJET team of journalists.
One of the strategic priorities of the ZDK Tourist Board was the organization of this event, with the aim of strengthening it visibility and recognition of the Zenica-Doboj canton on the regional and international tourist market. The goal was to present ZDK as an important, but insufficiently affirmed part of the tourist offer of Bosnia and Herzegovina – a canton that, thanks to its natural, cultural-historical and gastronomic riches, deserves a place on the tourist map of the region.
During the four-day visit, the journalists had the opportunity to visit many tourist locations throughout the canton. Due to the spatial size of the canton and the current infrastructure works on certain sections, the visit plan was partially adapted, but the journalists visited more important destinations – from Tešnja, Maglaja, Zavidovića, Žepča and Zenicauntil Kakanj, Visoko and Vareš.
The program included a tour of cultural and historical monuments, protected natural areas, the most beautiful villages of the canton, as well as meetings with the local population, tasting of traditional gastronomy, and familiarization with the customs and traditions of rural areas. Special attention was attracted by local hoteliers and authentic offers that make ZDK unique on the tourist map of BiH.
At the end of the visit, it is expected that the Zenica-Doboj Canton will receive significantly higher media visibility in the regional tourist area. FIJET journalists, upon returning to their newsrooms, will television programs, radio shows, portals, social networks and digital mediapresent the tourist attractions they visited. According to the estimates of the association itself, the potential reach of posts exceeds 20 million people throughout Southeast Europe – which was also the main goal of the ZDK Tourist Board.
Although it was not possible to visit all destinations in the canton in the limited time of three effective days, this FAM TRIP confirmed that The Zenica-Doboj canton has an extremely rich and varied tourist offer. With this visit and the impressions that the natural beauty and diverse tourist offer of ZDK left on FIJET journalists, that tourism activity in ZDK, with further improvement of road and tourist infrastructure and superstructure, as well as stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors, can become a strong generator of the economic development of the canton.
Tourism is not an expense – tourism is an investment. Such an approach is crucial in order to position the Zenica-Doboj Canton as a recognizable and attractive tourist destination in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
