The beginning of the new ski season in Soelden is symbolic of the “open borders” of winter excitement.
On the legendary Austrian track, which traditionally marks the start of the World Cup, spectators witnessed an exciting giant slalom in which the Austrian Julia Scheib achieved the first victory in her career.
Scheib (27) excelled from the beginning to the end of the race – she was the fastest in the first run, and in the second she maintained a high level and with a total time of 2:16.51 recorded a triumph in front of the home audience.
The American Paula Moltzan (+0.58) finished in second place, while the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami (+1.42) finished third.
Croatian skier Zrinka Ljutić had an excellent start to the season and held third place after the first run, but she was unable to repeat the same rhythm in the rest of the race and ended up in 10th place with a total time of 2:18.55, which was 2.04 seconds slower than the winner.
The World Cup in Soelden continues already tomorrow when men will compete in the same place, also in the giant slalom discipline.
