Evacuation orders in Los Angeles County for the Palisades and Eaton fires have been modified but remain in effect for more than 100,000 people, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
“Approximately 105,000 residents are under evacuation orders and approximately 87,000 residents are under evacuation warnings,” LA County Sheriff Robert G. Luna said at a news conference Sunday.
“If you’re asked to leave and you’re in an evacuation order zone, your life is in danger. You have to leave,” Luna said.

The sheriff stressed that he understands it’s difficult for residents to stay away from their homes, but said the affected areas remain unsafe.
“Driving around some of these areas, they literally look like war zones. There’s downed power poles, power lines. There’s still smoldering fires. It’s not safe,” Luna said.
“We want to return you to your homes, but we cannot allow that until it is safe for you,” he added.
The Eaton fire is burning at 14,117 acres and is 15% contained, while the Palisades fire is at 23,707 acres and only 11% contained.
