The Medical Chamber of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, the Zenica Cantonal Hospital, the Institute for Health and Food Safety and the Ministry of Health ZDK, with the patronage of the pharmaceutical company Farmavita, during the past month organized the second “Basic Training of Doctors for Abdominal Ultrasound”. The training brought together ten doctors from different cities of the canton, while 200 citizens of ZDK performed a preventive examination.
Training of doctors for faster and more accessible diagnostics
The goal of the training was to train as many doctors as possible to perform ultrasound diagnostics of the abdomen, which enables faster and more accessible diagnostics for citizens. After the completion of two groups of ten doctors each, the organization of Advanced Abdominal Ultrasound Training is planned for further upgrading of knowledge and skills. The organizers point out that this is the first multi-institutional training of this kind in the canton and they hope to continue successful cooperation through future educations.
The survey covered 200 citizens
During three weeks of preventive examinations at the KBZ Education Center, abdominal ultrasound was performed for 200 citizens. This method of examination is fast, painless and safe, and allows checking the condition of internal organs, such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas and gall bladder.
Elma Kuduzović, head of the Department of Public Health at the Institute for Health and Food Safety in Zenica, emphasized the importance of such educations: “The goal of such examinations is the education of doctors, but also the availability of preventive examinations to the widest possible population of citizens, which brings significant benefits to the health system.”
Support and importance of abdominal ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasound is especially important for people with risk factors, such as a family history of abdominal disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity. Regular check-ups can detect changes that threaten health in time, which enables a timely reaction and prevention of complications.
Tarik Kapidžić, president of the ZDK Medical Chamber, emphasized the importance of investing in equipment: “We are pleased that our educators are passing on knowledge to young doctors, who will soon apply it in practice. It is important that every health center and health institution have adequate ultrasound machines so that the acquired knowledge can be applied immediately.”
Certificates and continuing education
At the end of the three-week program, ten doctors from ZDK received certificates, confirming the successfully mastered skills of basic abdominal ultrasound diagnostics. The organizers announce the continuation of education and plan additional programs that will enable further improvement and availability of preventive examinations to the wider population.
