Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the death toll from the fire had risen to 76.
Earlier today, it was announced that 51 people were injured in the fire, one of them in critical condition, 17 people were released from the hospital after receiving help.
Yerlikaya added that as part of the investigation into the fire that engulfed the hotel, nine people have been detained so far.
Early this morning, a fire broke out in the ski resort of Kartalkaya, which is located about 295 kilometers east of Istanbul.
Numerous emergency response teams from neighboring towns, including firefighters, disaster response units and medical teams supported by helicopters, were sent to the scene. About 230 people were evacuated from the hotel. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
Kartalkaya, in the province of Bolu, is one of the most important winter tourist destinations in Turkey and attracts thousands of visitors during the ski season.
A national day of mourning was declared in Turkey on Wednesday, January 22, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today.
