London is the most congested city in Europe, with drivers stuck in traffic for an average of 101 hours last year.
Much like its traffic congestion, London’s position as the most congested city in Europe remained unchanged, topping the list ahead of Paris and Dublin.
Drivers in London spent an average of 101 hours stuck in traffic last year, a 2% increase on the previous year, according to transport analytics company Inrix.
In recent years, the city has seen a steady increase in congestion, from 97 hours in 2022 to 99 hours in 2023. The A40 Westway in London is rated as the most congested road in the UK, with the worst time being between 5pm and 6pm.
Behind London is Paris, with 97 hours, followed by Dublin in third place with 81 hours.
Inrix estimated the cost to London at around £3.85 billion, equivalent to £942 for each of the city’s 4 million drivers.
The company said it used a variety of data sources to build its analysis, including phones and vehicles.
Inrix says London contains most of the worst corridors for traffic delays in the UK due to its “concentration of population, employment and economic activity”.
London is known for its traffic problems, and Piccadilly Circus has become synonymous with chaotic busy places.
