The judge of the Special Court in The Hague for KLA crimes Christopher Gosnell, in the decision to review the detention, which he made yesterday, June 2, ordered the continuation of the detention of Thaci and his associates, it was announced on the court’s website.
In the decision, it was stated that the prosecution demands the extension of Tači’s detention because there are still reasons for it, reports Srna.
The judge informed the parties in this proceeding to be ready to submit their final submissions to the court by June 19.
Former KLA leaders Hashim Tači, Baškim Smakaj, Isnij Kiljaj, Fadilje Fazljiju and Hajredin Kuči are on trial for obstructing justice and attempting to influence witnesses.
According to the indictment, from April 12 to November 2, 2023, during separate, non-privileged visits to the detention facility, Tači provided Smakaj, Kiljaj, Fazljiju and Kuči with confidential information about the prosecution’s witnesses in a separate war crimes case against him.
The indictment states that Thaci ordered four former KLA leaders to influence prosecution witnesses and gave them detailed instructions on how to do so.
We would like to remind you that Thaci has been in custody in The Hague since November 2020, and he is being tried in separate proceedings, together with three other former leaders of the KLA, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
