The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted at today’s telephonic session, at the proposal of the Federal Ministry for Veterans and Invalids of the Defense and Liberation War, a Decision on the adoption of the Program for spending funds in the amount of 1,720,000 KM intended for the improvement of the socio-economic status of members of the veteran population and the preservation of the achievements of the Defense and Liberation War.
The funds are planned by the Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2026 as part of current transfers to non-profit organizations, and the Federal Ministry for Veterans and Invalids of the Defense-Liberation War will be in charge of submitting a report on their expenditure to the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Government of FBiH.
A significant part of the funds is aimed at providing legal assistance to members of the veteran population. Thus, 555,000 KM will be allocated to the Foundation for providing legal assistance to members of the veteran population in Sarajevo, while the Foundation for providing legal assistance to members of the veteran population in Mostar will receive 285,000 KM.
According to the decision, 90 percent of the approved funds will be used to co-finance legal assistance to members of the veteran population, while the remaining 10 percent is intended to cover the current operating costs of these organizations.
The program also provides funds for organizations that gather former camp inmates and deal with the protection of war victims. 120,000 KM was granted to the Association of BiH Prisoners, 70,000 KM to Croatia, 70,000 KM, while 90,000 KM will be allocated for research and documentary activities and protection of victims of genocide witnesses.
The largest individual amount, 600,000 KM, is intended to support the Foundation for housing care for disabled war veterans and the veteran population. The funds will be used to help resolve housing issues of veterans, in accordance with the Foundation’s Work Program for 2026.
The FBiH Government points out that the goal of the program is to improve the position of the veteran population, provide legal and social support, and preserve the values and achievements of the defensive and liberation war.
