Meeting, held 3. September, means the beginning of the fund’s work that aims to preserve American interest in Ukraine and assistance in renovating its war-affected economy, writes the Kyiv Independent.
At the meeting, the members of the Board approved the opening of bank accounts, appointed administrators and investment advisers, and the members of the four supervisory board, published Julia Sviridenko on his telegram channel.
The United States appointed its three representatives on the board: the Minister of Finance Scott Bessent, and Connor Coleman and Robert Stebbins from the International Development Financial Corporation (DFC). Ukraine represent the Oleksij Soboljev and his deputy Jegor Perelihin from the Ministry of Economy, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleksandar Karasevic.
“I think the meeting went very successfully,” said Perelihin for Kyiv Independent. “The Fund is not only a complex mechanism for economic growth and renovation – it is an instrument that can serve as a driver of development of strategic sectors such as mining and processing critical minerals.”
The following steps include signing the guidelines for investment and the development of the list of initial projects. PERELIHIN added that the Committee hopes for at least two quality projects in the next 18 months.
The American delegation should arrive in Ukraine next week to start a tour of potential investment locations. The Ukrainian government has already announced auction for a lithium mine “good”.
Soboljev said at the end of August that the Fund “well progresses” and that Ukraine is preparing for the auction of several mining licenses, with the aim of attracting US companies. He especially emphasized the project “Good”, stating that mining could be one of the most interesting areas for American investors.
Lithium tray in Central Ukraine is estimated between 80 and 105 million metric tons of this requested resource. The project is expected to offer the U.S. TechMet, which supported by Washington, although it could face the legal battle with the Australian company in the European Lithium, which claims that there are already rights to the concession.
The Agreement between Kiev and Washington was signed on 30. April, providing special access to investment projects in Ukrainian natural resources, infrastructure, and even defense sector.
Donald Trump stated in February that Ukraine should return American military aid – through raw materials, which caused numerous criticism. After the tense negotiations, President Volodimir Greenski provided an agreement that is considered favorable in Ukraine. Although investors initially were skeptical, DFC and Ukrainian agencies have elaborated the mechanism of the Fund, which provides the Right to the right of first raw materials on market conditions, with political investment protection.
