The construction of the first section of the expressway through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has officially been completed, it says Biznisinfo.
It is a section about five kilometers long between Vitez and Travnik, which represents the first of a total of five lots of the future expressway Lašva – Nević Polje.
This road is one of the most important projects in central Bosnia. It should connect some of the most developed industrial and commercial areas in the country, speed up the flow of goods and people, and significantly reduce congestion on the overburdened M5 motorway.
Work completed, but the ride will not be soon
Although the section should have been completed earlier, an additional six million marks was approved this summer, which means that additional works were needed.
However, we will still have to wait for the opening, probably for several years.
The reason: the section can be opened to traffic only when the adjacent section through the Vitez Business Zone is completed – that is, section 2 of that 560-meter section, which also includes the construction of a roundabout on the M5 highway.
The wait could be long
The construction of section number 4 is still in the preparatory phase. We are currently working on project documentation, obtaining consent and issuing a building permit. In addition, it will be necessary to deal with land acquisition because here the road already enters a densely built-up area. All of this can take time.
And when the works finally start, a slow pace can be expected here too – as was the case with the first section. Everything points to the fact that it will be a long time before the first cars take the new expressway.
There is no bypass through Vitez – the road passes through the business zone
When it comes to the section whose construction is being prepared, there were ideas about building a kind of bypass around Vitez, but that was abandoned. In the current concept, the expressway will follow the existing route through the Vitez Business Zone. This means widening the highway with additional lanes and transforming it into an expressway.

Why is this one of the most important roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
The Lašva – Nević Polje expressway is considered a project that can completely change the traffic picture of central Bosnia. It is a region with more than 250,000 inhabitants, strong industry, trade and growing investments.
