The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas and U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio talked on the War of Ukraine and China, which was taken over by the Trump Administration in the 20th. January.
The conversation comes in the middle of increased European concerns about the fact that the new administration, with its approach “America in the first place”, mean to transatlantic connections in defense and security, economy, trade and other areas.
“We discussed global issues in which the EU and the United States have the same interests, including Russian war in Ukraine, the malicious influence of Iran and the challenges set by China,” Kallas on the X platform.
“The EU and the United States are always stronger together. I look forward to the meeting soon,” she pointed out in her publication of the former Estonian Prime Minister.
EU official, who wanted to remain anonymous, said Kallas and Rubio focused on joint priorities.
“They agreed on the need to maintain the maximum pressure on Moscow to go towards justly and sustainable peace in Ukraine. They also discussed the destabilizing role of Iran and the political transition of Syria,” he said.
U.S. President Donald Trump asked NATO members to spend 5 percent of their GDP on defense, which is a significant increase in the current goal of 2 percent and a level that no state of NATO, including the United States does not reach.
“Kallas emphasized the increasing investment of Europe in defense and its readiness to take over greater responsibility, with the importance of energy supply diversification,” EU official said.
