Philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott announced that she has donated a record $7.1 billion to non-profit organizations in 2025, a significant increase over previous years. In total, as of 2019, her donations reached an impressive $26.3 billion, CNN reports.
On her website, Scott wrote: “While this amount will certainly be mentioned in the news, it represents only a small fraction of the care and kindness that has been shared in communities this year.”
For comparison, her donations in 2024 amounted to 2.6 billion dollars, and in 2023, 2.1 billion. Her donations attract special attention because they come “without any conditions” and often exceed the annual budgets of the organizations that receive them.
According to Forbes, MacKenzie Scott’s net worth is $33 billion, mostly from the Amazon stock she received after her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019.
Unlike most foundations that require reports on how funds are spent, Scott does not set requirements. The Center for Effective Philanthropy’s 2023 survey found that recipients manage donations responsibly.
Kim Mazzuca, executive director of California-based nonprofit 10,000 Degrees, described how her organization received a donation of “$42 million,” twice its annual budget.
– I am speechless – said Mazzuca, adding that the funds will provide scholarships and mentorship to more students.
Scott invests in proven solutions and provides funding as a tool, stressing, “The ones we’ve been waiting for are ourselves.” This idea was inspired by a prophecy of the Hopi tribe, which Scott used as the title of an essay on her website.
In addition, Scott also invests in companies that support students through loans, seeking to channel funds into mission-aligned investments rather than purely financial returns. The essay concludes: “There are many ways to influence how we move through the world and where we land.”
