From 1. August, the application of the US President Donald Trump (Trump) begins at which the customs are introduced from as much as 30 percent for products from BiH. This will be a new challenge for brittle bh. Economics, especially the purpose industry, which exports to American opens the other markets in the world that is armed intensively.
All louder initiatives are that domestic authorities take diplomatic steps in the direction of achieving a duty-free export agreement in the USA.
30 percent more expensive
– Americans strengthen their position and want to show that they are dominant. In the mass of importing I would and it is not so interesting to them, but we must weigh if we can withstand it or not. Given similar decisions and for other countries, we can say that we are in the phase of the classic trade war. In any case, we need to do something, on the diplomatic plan, ask them not to do it. Each exports is important to us, especially in the country of authority, because we are praised to export the United States, and our dedicated potential will not be able to be held in these new conditions, as its products will be 30 percent more expensive – says Economic Exp.
On the other hand, a professor of the Faculty of Economics UNSA Aziz Sunja believes that American customs will not cause significant problems to the domestic economy.
Trade partner
– Last year, we exported almost 234 million KM in the United States, which is about 1.42 percent of our overall exports, and we imported close to 190 million. So now for us are not a more significant trading partner. In our exports about 60 percent is a dedicated industry, so customs can guess these businesses traded with the United States. Given that the dedicated industry has high profits, they can fit that they can still be competitive and it can be one type of challenge to raise productivity – says Professor Sunja.
On the other hand, from 1. August will also apply the customs rate of 30 percent and for all EU products, which is the largest and most important foreign partner of BiH.
– This decision may indirectly influence BiH in the part of the exports of our products, which are incorporated into European and intended exports to the United States. As the EU will be set up remains to be seen – professor Šunja.
Generally passive
Our interlocutors agree with the grade that they are bh. Authorities are too passive, because the announcements of the Customs have arrived a few months ago, and that they have not yet taken that they at least initiate conversations about the avoidance of a new bh. economy, writes Avaz.
