Namely, FIFA has decided to introduce purple and blue cards for coaches, and in the future they should be used in smaller competitions under the auspices of the umbrella football organization. The goal is to improve refereeing in competitions that do not have the financial means to fully use VAR technology – most often it is about the number of cameras on the field.
Football Video Support (the name of the rules or system) is currently in the test phase, and some leagues have been using it since August, reports Goal. These are the third leagues of Spain and Italy, and the first women’s Spanish league.
How does Football Video Support work?
Both coaches receive a purple or blue card at the start of the game, which they can use twice during the game. Coaches can request a replay by raising two fingers in the air and taking the card to the fourth official.
Once they decide to do so, the referee must review the tape again and can then change his decision or stand by what he decided on the first occasion, leaving the requesting team with no other opportunity to do the same later in the game.
Re-examination of the footage can be requested immediately after the offense has occurred, i.e. it is not possible to use it to review the situation that happened earlier during the match.
