The vacation season is in full swing, and many families in Bosnia and Herzegovina are heading to the sea, mountains or tourist destinations these days. However, the vacation, which should be a time of relaxation for a large number of citizens, represents a serious financial challenge.
Today, the average family of four often spends more than 2,000 KM for a summer vacation, when all expenses are added up – accommodation, travel, fuel, tolls, food, refreshments, excursions and additional activities.
The biggest item is accommodation. Apartment prices on the Adriatic coast, especially in the peak season, have risen significantly. For seven to ten days of vacation, a family can spend from a few hundred to more than 1,500 KM, depending on the destination and the distance from the sea.
The additional cost is the road. Fuel, tolls and possible ferry costs can add significantly to the final bill, especially for families traveling by car.
There are also daily expenses during vacation. Food in restaurants, ice creams, drinks on the beach, excursions and entertainment can easily add several hundred marks to the total budget.
Many citizens therefore choose shorter vacations, private accommodation instead of hotels or destinations that are closer and more affordable. More and more often, alternative options such as cottages, mountain vacations and trips to Bosnia and Herzegovina are being sought.
However, the interest in traveling did not disappear. After months of work, many families find that a few days off is necessary for rest and time spent together, so they save for summer vacations throughout the year.
While in the past citizens set aside a few salaries or a small part of their savings for a vacation, today the average family often has to carefully calculate every expense in order to afford a few days of vacation away from everyday duties, writes Press Media BiH.
