In the Jablanica area on Monday, July 6, in the morning hours, a large rescue and logistics operation called Operation “Arx Alpina” is being carried out, in the framework of which a Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter from the EUFOR forces will transport and set up a new mountain bivouac at the location of Greda on the Prenj mountain.
The bivouac was built and donated by the Brkanović family in memory of their daughter and sister Maida Brkanović, who tragically lost their lives on August 29, 2020.
The Jablanica Mountain Rescue Service states that the bivouac will be permanently made available to all mountaineers, rescuers and nature lovers as a safe shelter in case of sudden weather events.
Helicopter transport in progress
The starting point of the operation is the plateau of the “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” Museum in Jablanica, from where the transport of concrete footings, equipment and members of the GSS and technical teams began in the morning.
The main part of the action envisages the transport of a fully assembled bivouac measuring four by 2.5 meters, weighing about four tons, which will be transported in a special metal cage and placed on the Greda site.
As they pointed out from GSS Jablanica, it is a project that represents an example of successful cooperation between the local community, the Mountain Rescue Service and international forces, with the aim of improving the safety of all visitors to the Prenj mountain.
Formed columns in Jablanica
BIHAMK announced that due to the loading of cargo into the helicopter, in the vicinity of the “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva” Museum, long lines of vehicles were formed.
“As we have been informed by the Jablanica Police Station, cargo is being loaded into a helicopter near the ‘Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva’ Museum, which is why long lines of vehicles have formed. According to the operator on duty, the stoppage should not last much longer,” said BIHAMK.
Prohibited use of drones
The organizers sent an important appeal to citizens and visitors that during the operation, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the area of the activity is strictly prohibited.
The ban was introduced for security reasons in order to enable the smooth and safe flight of the military transport helicopter and the successful implementation of the entire operation, it says. Radio Sarajevo.
