NATO members are considering an initiative to provide military financial aid to Ukraine in the amount of 70 billion euros, which could be agreed upon at the summit of the leaders of the Alliance in July in Ankara, Politiko newspaper reported citing sources.
Of the total amount, 40 billion euros would represent new financial obligations, while the remaining 30 billion are part of the EU aid package of 90 billion euros, according to the report.
The newspaper reminds that the initiative, which envisages the establishment of new mechanisms to increase transparency regarding each country’s contribution, was proposed by the German government in May.
According to the newspaper, some European countries have previously complained that the disproportionately large burden of support for Kyiv falls on them.
“Politiko” adds that support for Ukraine could be one of the key topics of the NATO leaders’ summit, scheduled for July 7 and 8.
