At least ten people were killed, and nine is leading as disappeared in floods and grounds of soil caused by heavy rains that the last four days affect South Korea, authorities said.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and the National Fire Agency, the most victims were recorded in Sancheong County, where six people were killed, while seven still leads as disappeared. Deaths are also confirmed in Osan (Gyeonggi province), and towns of Seosan and Dangjin (Province of Southern Chungcheong).
In the southwest town of Gwangju, two people have disappeared, while the rescue teams in Sancheong have so far pulled out 58 survivors, but the search for missing continues. Authorities fear that the number of victims could grow.
The precipitation that continuously last from Wednesday brought record quantities of rain: Sancheong received as many as 793.5 millimeters, Hapcheon 699 mm, and Hadong 621.5 mm. As a result, 1920 incidents related to floods, grounds of soil and the destruction of public infrastructure, while another 2234 cases of private assets were reported, including houses and agricultural land.
Due to endangerment and damage, more than 12,900 people searched for a temporary shelter in 14 cities and provinces. Abundant rainfall continues today, especially in the capital of Seoul and the province of Gangwon, where warnings continue to be in force.
