A large part of Europe is facing an extremely strong heat wave, which meteorologists describe as unprecedented in previous measurements, while temperatures in some parts of France and Great Britain reach up to 40 degrees Celsius.
French service meteorologist Adrien Warnan said it was a “totally unprecedented and historic” heat wave.
In France, temperatures in some regions reached around 39 degrees, while in the vicinity of London, approximately 35 degrees were measured. London recorded one of the warmest Mays on record.
Great Britain is thus facing the warmest May in the history of meteorological data.
– I work in the kitchen and this is terrible – Renata Stankevičiute, a cook from Lithuania who lives in England, told Euronews, describing everyday life during extreme temperatures.
High temperatures also significantly affect tourism in European cities. Visitors to Paris report that they can only go sightseeing in the early morning hours, while they spend the rest of the day indoors due to the heat.

The British Health Safety Agency has warned that last year heat waves in England led to around 1,500 deaths. The elderly and patients with chronic and respiratory diseases are especially at risk.
Experts warn that many residential buildings in the UK are poorly adapted to extreme temperatures, further increasing health risks during heatstroke.
Climate researcher Bob Ward from the London Grantham Research Institute pointed out that the temperatures recorded in London could lead to deaths, especially among sensitive categories of the population, and that a large number of problems occur precisely in overheated apartments.
In France, the authorities have not yet declared a state of emergency, but the Minister of Health, Stephanie Rist, called on citizens to be careful and follow the recommendations during the heat wave.
