CENTCOM said in a statement that the attacks were undertaken in “self-defense” and that their goal was “to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.”
A CENTCOM spokesman said the US military “continues to defend its forces with restraint during the ongoing ceasefire”.
Iranian media, including state media, announced three explosions that were heard in the area of the port city of Bandar Abbas in the south of the country. The reports, however, specify that the explosions were heard “from” the city, not necessarily “in” it, which leaves the possibility that the incident took place at sea or in the city zone itself.
Official Tehran has not yet made an announcement about the event.
Iranian officials have neither confirmed nor denied US reports that Iranian missile launchers and ships were attacked.
According to claims from the United States, the attacked vessels were trying to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian authorities are expected to issue an official statement in the coming hours.
Target of attack – Bandar Abbas
Several explosions rang out in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas early this morning local time, after which the anti-aircraft defense system was activated. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard initially reported three explosions, citing unnamed sources, but official confirmation of the cause was not immediately released.

Bandar Abbas is located in the south of Iran and is strategically located along the Strait of Hormuz. The city is home to a key Iranian naval and air base.
