The Supreme Court of the United States decided on Monday that immigration raids in Los Angeles can continue, an abolishing ban issued by the Federal Judge who ordered that agents could only stop people if there is a “reasonable reason” for doubt.
The court’s decision is a victory for President Donald Trump, who promised a record number of migrant deportations in the country.
The decision of judges, most of whom conserve the Conservatives, allows agents to stop suspects exclusively on their basis of their race, language or occupation, while the legal battle of immigration raids continue through the courts.
Liberals expressed disagreement, warning that the decision could jeopardize constitutional rights.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh stated that “obvious ethnicity” may not be sufficient for the justification of stops, but it may be a “relevant factor” when considered with other factors.
The decision encountered the criticism of the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, which said the verdict “not only dangerous, but also antiameric”.
