The strong earthquake of the magnitude 5.8 hit the night in Marmaris in the southwestern Turkish Province of Muğla. The earthquake felt in many parts of the country, and according to official information, 69 people were injured, while one 14-year-old girl, Afranur Günlü, lost his life due to panic that caused the soil shake.
According to data management for disasters and emergency situations (AFAD), the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Mediterranean Sea, 10.43 kilometers from Marmaris, at a depth of almost 68 kilometers. The first information says that there are no more serious damage to residential buildings.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that all AFAD teams and the competent services immediately went to the field and that search and security assessments were underway. “Unfortunately, in Fethiye, 14-year-old Afranur Günlü experienced a strong attack on panic, was transported to the hospital, but despite the efforts of the doctor,” Yerlikaya said.

He added that numerous citizens jumped from height in the panic, which is why numerous injuries were recorded. Fourteen people were taken care of on the spot, eight were fired from hospitals after processing, while 46 citizens are still on treatment in emergency hospital services.
The Minister of the Environment and Urbanism Mehmet Özhaseki Citizens sent to the expressions of the complaint and said, “I want a speedy recovery to all the affected ones.”
The competent services continue monitoring the situation, and seismologists warn that subsequent shocks are possible.
