There were many circumstances on the basis of which the match went into an unwanted zone, which we did not want to enter, said Igor Štimac, the coach of the Zrinjski players, after today’s domestic championship draw with the city rival Velež – 1:1.
“We played 25 fine minutes. We had a game, pressure and suddenly a stoppage. We lose energy, especially with players who were under the virus all week. We introduce fresh at halftime, we try… Then, when we prepare and get into a 2:0 situation, we miss the impossible. Nemanja Bilbija hits it with his eyes closed, now he doesn’t. He can’t even score every time,” pointed out Štimac, adding:
“Viroza killed a player, another injury to the goalkeeper in the second half. Then we hung on, it was a matter of time before we conceded a goal. All in all, we should be satisfied with the point, but today we lost two”.
And he sees fatigue as one of the reasons why Zrinjski did not win the Mostar derby, as he said, regardless of “the shouts from the stands”.
“The rhythm of playing games because of Europe is much more exhausting for us than for any other team in the league. Velež did not surprise us, because we knew they had quality, individually technically good players,” Štimac said.
