Stevanović gives up the bust: The doctor from Foča is no hero

He just published a long post about this case that caused a whole series of violent reactions and protests.

“As I promised, I will do my best to find out the facts closest to the truth and publish them.

Honestly, it was not easy because many people run away from the truth for some reasons of their own and keep this a taboo topic.

I-FACTS

1. Did Dr. Sekul Stanić set fire to his house in protest against the terror of the Chetniks against Bosniaks?

It’s not!

Hard evidence, wife’s statement

2. Was Sekul Stanić part of the SDS government system in Foča?

It is

Solid proof, he was the director of the hospital and a member of the crisis staff.

3. Did Sekul Stanić order or directly commit war crimes against Bosniaks?

There is no hard evidence

4. Were war crimes committed against Bosniaks in the hospital where the director was?

They are

Solid evidence from the judgments of the Hague Tribunal.

5. Could Sekul Stanić have tried to prevent crimes in the hospital where he was the director?

There is no evidence.

6. Did Sekul Stanić help some Bosniaks (colleagues, employees and patients) to escape the hell of Foča?

It is

Evidence based on witness statements

7. Was Sekula Stanić killed by members of the RS army after being tortured in prison in Miljevina?

They are

Evidence based on the autopsy report, statements of the wife and witnesses.

8. Was Sekul Stanić killed because he was helping some Bosniaks or in a mutual confrontation over the division of loot from robbery?

There are no answers or evidence, in Serbian circles everyone wants to cover up this case (understandably), so they put Sekula Stanić’s name on the memorial plaque of “killed fighters” and no one has an answer why.

II- WHERE DOES THE STORY OF AN EPIC HERO IN THE PUBLIC SPACE COME FROM?

1. The first story appeared in 2006 after a book and a documentary film by a prominent Sarajevo UNS professor (unfortunately, I think it is important to mention a Bosniak), in which a hero who burned his house in Foča in protest is mentioned.

2. Referring to this story, a respected journalist from Sarajevo wrote about it in Oslobođenje in 2009.

3. Svjetlana Broz writes about it in the same way in her book Good people in the time of evil.

4. In 2011, Sekula Stanić was awarded the Duško Condor award by the international non-governmental organization Gariwo with the same explanation.

5. A year later, part of the text about the burning of the government’s house (after the wife’s testimony) is deleted from the explanation of the award in the Bosnian language.

6. From 2011 until today, the media and social networks have been writing about the hero of the civil resistance, Sekula Stanić, and the injustice of not being socially valued.

III- WERE THERE SERIOUS EFFORTS TO FIND OUT AND PUBLISH THE FULL TRUTH?

It’s not.

Apart from the individual reactions of individuals or associations of citizens on social networks, sometimes with offensive text, there were no other serious and fact-based reactions.

The institutions that deal more seriously with these issues – the Institute for War Crimes Research (a state institution) and the Information Documentation Center (a non-governmental institution) are in disagreement with each other and transfer complaints to each other for biased and unprofessional work.

As far as I know, the media either accepted the story or superficially rejected it without serious research.

INSTEAD OF CONCLUSION

In my opinion, Dr. Sekul Stanić is not an epic hero who openly opposed Chetnik terror against Bosniaks in Foča, nor is there any sure evidence that he is a war criminal.

And you conclude for yourself, if you have and can announce new evidence.

I will no longer advertise on this, and I think it’s time to stop publishing stories about a brave resistance hero who burned down his house from time to time.

My only motive was and remains the truth, because only by persistently repeating the truth can one fight against evil and the lies that evil spreads.

Everything else is a matter of your personal judgment and history.

Thank you,” Stevanović’s post reads.

By the way, he is an SDP councilor in the Sarajevo City Council.
