There are three races on the program – Ledenica at 30 kilometers (six laps), snowball at 15 kilometers (three laps) and snowflake at five kilometers (one lap).
The start and finish of the race are in Dariva, and one lap of 5,000 meters goes along the route Dariva – Kozija ćuprija (turn) – Dariva – Bentbaša (turn) – Dariva.
The organizers, the “Boys in Blue” association, pointed out that January is the right time for the start of the racing season in Sarajevo, where competitors run in extreme winter conditions – snow, ice, smog, fog and at an average temperature of about minus seven degrees.
For the “Ledenica” race, the time limit is four hours, for “Snješka” two hours, while for “Pahuljica” the time limit is one hour.
Hundreds of runners from seven countries gathered at the start, and the organizers say that the aim of the event, in addition to sports competition, is to raise awareness of the environmental challenges that Sarajevo faces.
