By order of the Special Department of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – POSKOK, members of the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton temporarily confiscated the mobile phones of four people this morning as part of the investigation into the “Spengavanje” affair.
The subject of the investigation are communications that indicate possible abuse of position, trading in influence and corruption among the leaders of the FBiH Government and the Federal Police Administration. The focus is on the disputed correspondence of the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, and the Acting Director of the FUP, Vahidin Munjić.
The status of the persons whose phones were confiscated is currently unknown, and the investigation continues under the supervision of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.
These activities are carried out after correspondence about alleged recruitments involving Nikšić, his chief of staff Arijana Huseinović Ajanović, acting director of the FUP Vahidin Munjić, FUP official Muhamed Ohranović and others appeared in the media.
The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, spoke after it was announced that members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, on the order of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption (POSKOK), this morning confiscated the mobile phones of certain officials in the FBiH Government and the Federal Police Administration (FUP).
In his statement, Nikšić emphasized that he fully supports the work of police and judicial institutions and emphasized the importance of their professional and independent actions. “As Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I have shown that I fully support the work of police and judicial institutions, expecting them to perform their work professionally, impartially and in accordance with the law. Trust in institutions and their independence are the foundation of a stable and responsible society,” said Nikšić.
He also recalled that on October 24, he personally addressed POSKOK with a request that they investigate all allegations about his possible mediation in employment, and that, if there is a basis, initiate the appropriate procedure. “With that act, I wanted to show that no one, not even me, can and should not be exempted from checks and responsibilities,” emphasized Nikšić.
The Prime Minister added that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains open to full cooperation with all competent authorities. “My only interest is that the institutions function professionally, transparently and at full capacity – in the interest of citizens and preserving trust in the state,” Nikšić concluded.
