Czech skier Jan Zabystran is the sensational winner of the World Cup Super G Slalom, which was held on the Saslong track in Italy’s Val Gardena on Friday.
Zabystran performed with starting number 29 and skied the best race of his career. When almost everyone thought he was the best skier today, the 28-year-old Swiss Marco Odermattwon for the second day in a row, the 27-year-old Czech raced through the track and covered 2415 meters in 1:24.86 minutes.
With that, he exceeded the time he had set by 22 hundredths Odermatt and came to the first victories in his career. This was his 57th appearance in World Cup races in total, and his previous best result was achieved at the beginning of March in Kvitfjell, Norway, where he won eighth place in the super giant slalom.
Along with Odermatt and Zabystran, for the first time in his career he was on the podium the 24-year-old Italian also climbed in the World Cup Giovanni Franzoni. He won third place, 37 hundredths behind the winner. On Friday, Odermatt reached the podium for the 95th time in the World Cup.
A few more skiers with high starting numbers took advantage of the excellently prepared track and good weather conditions. That’s French Matthieu Bailet with number 43 came in fifth place (+0.47)an experienced Italian Christoph Innerhofer was sixth with number 30 (+0.53), and the Canadian brothers Seger rounded out the Top 15: the 29-year-old Brodie with number 49 won 14th place (+0.89), and 28-year-old Riley with number 36 finished 15th (+0.90).
Second place also gave Marc Odermatt the lead in the super-G slalom standings Small globe with 225 points from three races. Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr is second with 209 points.
The Swiss convincingly leads the overall standings for the Grand Crystal Globe with 685 points. Second-placed Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen has 302 points. The best Croatian skier, Filip Zubcic, is in 27th place with 96 points.
On Saturday, the skiers in Val Gardena will once again fight for points in the downhill, and on Sunday, the caravan will already arrive in the nearby Alta Badia, where the masters in technical disciplines will have their turn. On Sunday, a giant slalom is on the program on the famous Gran Risa track, and on Monday a slalom will be held, with new performances by Croatian skiers.
