On January 28, a monument built in 1972 was removed from the Pod Bijelim Brijegom stadium in Mostar, a symbol of memory, the anti-fascist struggle and the values on which Velež was built and which has been a proud heritage for decades.
It is the last in a series of attempts to erase the history of Mostar.
It was erected in memory of 77 martyred Velež players, who gave their lives in the fight against fascism.
The most ardent fans of Velež responded to the demolition today at the match in Mostar with a banner:
“According to the old habit, knock down to push the truth into oblivion, but their sacrifice is more eternal than any stone”.
