The new line is an extension of the existing route of the fast passenger train Sarajevo-Capljina-Sarajevo and will run on weekends, i.e. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The governor of the Dubrovnik-Neretva region, Blaž Pezo, expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the line, stressing that the train will run twice a week, with expected good occupancy and long-term success.
We will try to provide support in all of this. This cross-border cooperation is in the interest of both sides of the border – said Pezo.
The mayor of Ploče, Ivan Marević, also expressed his satisfaction, pointing out that the new line not only offers an advantage compared to the car, but also has a romantic dimension. – I will certainly use the train with my family – he added.
Similar praises also come from Metković, where the mayor Dalibor Milan pointed out that the line enables faster travel in Bosnia and Herzegovina, better connections between students and workers, but also significant tourist potential.
The citizens of the Neretva and Metković valleys can now visit Mostar and Sarajevo cheaper and faster, while the residents of Mostar and Sarajevo can discover the beauty of our region, including the Boat Marathon and museums – said Milan.
The general director of the FBiH Railways, Mirza Hadžibegić, did not hide his satisfaction either, pointing out that the line has become a year-round operation from the previous season and thanked everyone who helped in its realization.
We stand as a support and public service for citizens, and we look forward to future international lines. We are planning to soon include new routes to Zagreb and beyond – said Hadžibegić.
The President of the Board of HŽ Putničko povežių Željko Ukić expressed his satisfaction with the year-round operation of the line after almost 12 years.
I thank the initiative of the mayors of Ploč and Metković, the governor, and the support of colleagues from FBiH Railways who enabled the establishment of the line – said Ukić, emphasizing that the line connects students from the Dubrovnik-Neretva region with the University of Mostar.
Ukić added that children, students, pensioners and people over the age of 60 can use the train for free on the Croatian part of the route, while in Bosnia and Herzegovina a part of the ticket is paid.
The train will run on weekends from November 14 this year until June 25, 2026, after which it will run seasonally from June 26 to August 31, 2026.
According to the timetable, the train from Sarajevo to Ploče leaves on Fridays at 16:46 and arrives in Ploče at 20:14. It departs from Ploče to Sarajevo on Saturdays at 5:05 (arrival at 8:35), and on Sundays at 15:40 (arrival at 19:07). On Sunday mornings, another train leaves Sarajevo for Ploče at 7:15, arriving at 10:36.
By extending the line to Ploče, passengers are enabled to travel to the Adriatic coast in a simpler and more affordable way, further strengthening the connection between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
Passengers can buy tickets for Ploče at points of sale in Sarajevo, Hadžići, Konjic, Mostar and Čapljina, but currently not online.
Tickets must be purchased no later than the day before the trip, by 12 o’clock, with the obligatory provision of personal information: first and last name, year of birth and passport number.
Passengers who start their journey in Ploče can buy a ticket from the conductor on the train, with the option of paying in marks or euros.
The FBiH Railways points out that this procedure was introduced for faster customs control and to reduce waiting times at the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
