– I wouldn’t rule anything out – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with the state magazine International Affairs, published on Saturday.
– The search for the way forward continues – he said.
Ryabkov said that contacts between Russia and the United States have not been suspended and that dialogue channels continue to function.
Trump and Putin last met in Alaska in August, but failed to reach any agreement on resolving or pausing Russia’s war in Ukraine. A follow-up plan for a meeting in Budapest has been suspended indefinitely.
– We work continuously. We have well-established formats and channels. Not all of these channels are visible or audible, not all of them need to be discussed publicly, but the fact is that everything is fine – said the Russian diplomat.
Ryabkov said that the progress in establishing dialogue between Russia and the US is “impressive”.
Ryabkov also commented on the possibility of a trilateral meeting with China and the United States on nuclear stability, saying that Moscow does not intend to push Beijing towards it.
– We have no questions for China on the topic of arms control and strategic stability – Ryabkov said, adding that Russia has not received any formal proposals from the US regarding such a meeting.
Trump has expressed interest in having China join nuclear arms reduction efforts alongside Russia and the US.
Last month, Putin raised the possibility of bilateral nuclear de-escalation and that China could join those efforts, reports Reuters.
