Russia rejected the possibility of establishing a truce in the current circumstances on the Ukrainian battlefields during the upcoming holidays.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday that Moscow is continuing with peace initiatives aimed at eliminating the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine.
Commenting on the possibility of a truce during the Christmas and New Year holidays, Zakharova said that a short-term ceasefire would only make sense if support for what she called the “criminal and corrupt terrorist regime in Kyiv” ends.
She pointed out that Russian peace efforts are well known and added that initiatives that do not address the root causes of the conflict “camouflage violence and do not bring real peace.”
Zakharova also emphasized that the truce does not suit those who profit from the conflict, but that Russia belongs to “those who are truly oriented towards peace”.
