Russia and Iran signed the Memorandum on Understanding on Wednesday, which provides for the construction of small nuclear power plants in Iran, confirmed the Russian State Nuclear Corporation Rosat.
The agreement was signed in Moscow director of Rosatoma Aleksej Likačev and the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, also Vice President Iran, Mohammad Eslami. Rosatom described the project as “Strategic”.
Iran plans to build a total of eight nuclear power plants, with the aim of reaching 2040. reaches a capacity of 20 GW from nuclear energy. The country currently has only one functional power plant – in the southern city of Busher – which has also built Russia, and its capacity is about 1 GW.

Russia and Iran have close relations, and Moscow previously condemned American-Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear plants this year, which allegedly aimed to prevent Tehran in the development of nuclear weapons. Iran claims not to strive to make nuclear bombs.
