Romania’s airspace was violated during the night Russian attack on Ukraine, and the zone of probable drone entry was determined near the border. Romania’s Ministry of Defense announced that two F-16 aircraft had been dispatched to monitor the situation.
The violation of airspace occurred during a Russian drone attack on the port of Izmail in the Ukrainian Odesa region, the Romania Journal news service reported, citing Ukrainska Pravda.
Residents of the Romanian region bordering Ukraine were warned to seek shelter on Friday morning as planes were raised after a Russian drone entered the country’s airspace.
Romania’s Emergencies Directorate sent a warning to residents of the Tulcea district on the Ukrainian border, advising them to seek shelter for 90 minutes.
About two hours after their deployment, Romanian military planes returned to base and later discovered traces of the allegedly downed drone near the village of Plauru, which is just across the Danube River from Izmail.
The Ministry of Defense reported that the area was secured pending an investigation.
