Residents of the Pacific island of Kiritimati were the first in the world to welcome the new year of 2025, writes CNN.
Midnight struck on the island at 11:00 CET.
Kiritimati is part of the Micronesian island nation of Kiribati, in the central part of the Pacific Ocean.
That territory is also known as Christmas Island.
The New Year was celebrated 15 minutes later on Chatham Island, off the east coast of New Zealand.
