Rescuers found the lifeless bodies of two Italian mountaineers who had an accident five days ago on the Gran Sasso mountain, and since then they have been looking for them, Italian media reported today.
Cristian Gualdi (42) and Luka Peracini (48) died, who fell into a ravine after slipping while hiking, Ansa agency reported.
Rescue teams and helicopters have been trying to reach the two alpinists for the past few days, but very bad weather conditions, the danger of avalanches and strong winds prevented them from doing so.
Family members of the victims expressed their gratitude to the rescuers and other services for the efforts made to find the two mountaineers.
Their bodies were transferred to Macini Hospital in Teramo, and the funeral will be held on January 2.
