On December 26, Finland seized the Eagle S tanker carrying Russian oil on suspicion of damaging the Finnish-Estonian Estlink 2 transmission line and four telecommunications cables on Christmas Day by dragging an anchor on the seabed.
“Both of Elisa’s cables have now been repaired,” a spokesman for the Finnish telecommunications group said, adding that both lines had been cut.
The Eagle S, which is registered in the Cook Islands, was brought into the bay near the Finnish port of Porvoo where police are currently collecting evidence and questioning the crew.
Repairs to the Estlink 2 power cable, which was damaged along with telecommunications cables, are expected to take about seven months, operators Fingrid of Finland and Elering of Estonia said.
