Apartment rental prices in Bosnia and Herzegovina have seen a significant increase in recent years, and finding an apartment in larger cities for less than 400 KM per month has become almost impossible.
In Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla, rent prices depend on the location, the size of the apartment and the equipment, but citizens increasingly state that even smaller apartments have reached amounts that seriously burden the household budget.
Studios and smaller one-room apartments in more attractive parts of the city are often rented for 400 to 700 KM per month, while families have to shell out significantly more for larger apartments.
It is especially difficult for young people who are just starting to work, students and families who do not have their own real estate. When utilities, internet, food and transportation are added to the rent, a large part of the monthly salary goes to basic expenses alone.
In the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, prices are among the highest, especially in neighborhoods that have good connections with the city center. A similar trend is present in Banja Luka, where the increased demand for apartments additionally influenced the price growth.
Mostar and Tuzla are no exception. Due to tourism, the arrival of students and increased demand, apartments that were previously available at significantly lower prices are now being rented for much higher amounts.
Apartment owners cite rising real estate prices, investment in renovations, and higher demand as the reasons for the price increase. On the other hand, tenants point out that salaries have not kept up with the increase in the cost of living.
Many citizens believe that the biggest problem is the disparity between income and housing prices. While average salaries make it hard to afford a large sum for rent, rental prices continue to rise, he writes Press Media BiH.
