Reactions to the verdict: No punishment is enough, but a bit of faith in the system has been restored

In front of the Union of Police Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, they said that their feelings were divided today.

“No court verdict will bring back our Ada and Davor, but a clear message has been sent that justice and the rule of law have won. A message has been sent to everyone – that no one will touch us, not only police officers, but also all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that , by committing such a misdeed, were put in a situation where they would be sentenced to the maximum penalty,” they said in front of the Union of Police Officers of the Interior Ministry of the KS and added:

“What was read by the presiding judge was not just a simple reading – all the evidence had to be collected, well documented, and on this occasion I would like to thank the acting prosecutors, the entire investigative team, all those who were involved in the execution of this crime.”

The representative of the Police Union said that, by reading the verdict, they saw that the second defendant cooperated with the court.

“My heart skipped a beat when I heard about the applause”

“I have said before that I expect the maximum sentence. My heart skipped a beat when I heard that there was applause when the judge read the verdict and that sends a clear message how we feel now.”

Katica: No punishment is adequate, but a piece of faith in the system has been restored

Admir Katica, Minister of Internal Affairs of the KS, said that the sentence of 45 years was certainly the maximum that could be imposed under the FBiH Criminal Code.

“It seems to me that the Prosecutor’s Office and the police officers did a good job in investigating and proving this crime. Mixed feelings. No punishment is adequate for murder, especially of police officers. The highest maximum sentence sent a message to all those who commit and think of something similar “, said Katica.

“Such a penal policy is required in the fight against crime, especially organized crime. I believe that a piece of faith in the judicial system is returning”; Katica said.

After the investigation and arrest of those convicted of murdering police officers, the number of vehicle thefts in KS has decreased.

Katica was asked whether it is possible to talk about eradicating this problem.

“This event marked the beginning of the final reckoning with this form of crime, especially the closing of entrances and exits from KS with a video surveillance system. Today we can say that this phenomenon of organized crime related to the theft of passenger motor vehicles in KS is negligible,” he said.

We will remind you that Sava Marinković and Aleksandar Macan were sentenced for the murder of Sarajevo police officers. Marinković received a single sentence of 45 years in prison, and Macan was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The third defendant for the murder of the Sarajevo policemen, Marko Trifković, was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty, while the evidentiary proceedings in this case ended on November 4.

Marinković and Macan were accused that on October 26, 2018, around 4:20 a.m., they were caught trying to steal a car in Geteova Street in the Alipašino Polje neighborhood in Sarajevo. They opened fire on the policemen, firing at least 20 rounds.
