The operation comes just two weeks after the 22-time Grand Slam champion returned to training after a break of more than a year. The return of chronic hand pain forced Nadal to undergo an intervention.

Nadal played his last official match at the 2024 Davis Cup in Malaga, and the Spaniard planned to play more exhibition matches in 2026. The further course of recovery will be known after the controls in the coming weeks.
