Sébastien Lecorne, Fifth French Prime Minister in the last two years, was resigned on Monday, just a few hours after publishing the government’s composition, which has thus became the shortest administration in the newer history of France.
However, at the request of President Emmanuel Macron, Lecorn continued consultations with political leaders – from the left to the right center – in an attempt to calm the political crisis and prevent the early parliamentary elections.
“I told the President to believe that the current situation enables the appointment of the Prime Minister in the next 48 hours,” Lecorna told France 2 after informing Macron about the conversation outcome.
Macron is facing the weeks from the resignation or announcement of the early parliamentary elections – both from the far right and left and left of the political center. Lecorne said that his conversations with other parties showed that there is a majority in parliament that opposes early elections.
Financial markets are shaken due to the political blockade in the second largest economy of the eurozone, and investors are already concerned about the great budget deficit.
However, French actions and bonds have shown signs of recovery on Wednesday, after Lecorna expressed careful optimism in the morning regarding possible agreement. He is still unknown when Macron will publish his final decision.
Lecorni was clearly ordered that he would not be the next Prime Minister. He refused to speculate who could be and to which political option, the new government could belong to, emphasizing that it is the exclusive decision of the Macron President.
