The Association “Center for Development of Media and Analysis” (CRMA) and the Umbrella Association in Europe in Sarajevo presented the Pilot Mobile Application Press Alert, which was developed within the project “Effective Protection and Fast Media Support”. The application was developed with the support of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it developed the company App Impact.
The CRMA did the media community in the project of Personal Experience and the Silbood journalists and the Proposals and Suggestions of Journalists, opened the Prosecutor’s Office and Police Agencies, and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees. Ultimately, a mobile application is made that allows you to quickly report different types of attacks and threats. The Press Alert application includes the “Red button / keys” for emergency situations, with the integration of locators and the camera, which is possible to quickly alarm the police, prosecution, the media community and the public. The application has been developed according to the strictest security of personal data protection and is multi-leaved, and as a tool adaptable to different contexts and environments.
– The process of this project was from the beginning to create a tool that will provide reporters that they are not alone and how there is a way to help them in trouble. Through the implementation of this project, we recognized other institutions, organizations and contact points in prosecutors’ offices and police agencies that have created a network of legal aid and protection for journalists through some other initiatives. If we add this to all this, then without modesty, we can say that we have made a very high quality assistance to journalists in trouble – said the executive director of the CRMA Eldin Karić Association.
Aurelie Valtat, Head of the Department of European Integration, Political Issues, Press and Information in the Delegation of the European Union to BiH reminded the importance of media freedom for European integration.
– We go out that the investigative novanship in BiH is endangered, the number of attacks and cases against journalists are on the rise. When I talked to journalists in Banja Luka, they told me that they were very worried about their own safety, and that is unacceptable for the state that wants to become a member of the EU. We will watch the situation, and we appreciate the commitment of all media workers and civil society organizations, because it takes a lot of courage, and we see that they have.
The project “Efficient protection and fast media support” was realized since February 2024. years and enters its finish. Four basic steps that are up to the use of the application as a tool to support journalists and endangered security situations was as efficient as possible:
Institutional certificate for application of Press Alert application;
Ensuring human resources to administer applications through the Press Alert application;
Ensuring technical resources for maintaining the Press Alert application;
Active use of the Press Alert application by the media community and institutions
