Before tonight’s match of the third round of the football Champions League between PSV and Napoli, the police in Eindhoven detained around 180 visiting fans, Dutch media announced.
The city authorities of Eindhoven previously marked the match between PSV and Napoli as a high-risk event, and because of this certain areas of the city are under special police attention.
On Monday evening, a larger group of Napoli fans gathered in the center of Eindhoven, agencies report.
They disobeyed the police request to leave the city center, so about 180 of them were taken to the police station. Some of those detained did not even have tickets for the match.
At another location in the city, the police detained four PSV fans and announced that they acted as a precaution and that there was no conflict between the fan groups of the two clubs.
Napoli received 1,600 tickets for tonight’s game, with police expecting to include around 300 of those they flagged as problematic.
After two rounds of the Champions League, PSV has one point and Napoli three points.
