At Sunday’s Real Madrid members’ assembly, club president Florentino Perez praised former players, especially Luka Modric, and harshly criticized UEFA and La Liga for their overcrowded schedule and efforts to play matches around the world.
– We are coming from a period that will forever be etched in the memory of Real Madrid fans, so please give recognition to Ancelotti, the most trophy-winning coach in our history, with fifteen titles. “He has earned our affection forever,” Perez said.
The president singled out Modrić in particular.
– Luka is in the heart of Real Madrid, he is an example on and off the field, loved and respected. He is the most decorated player in our history – Perez added.
Modrić, the 40-year-old Croatian captain, left the club last summer after 13 years and 28 titles won, and moved to Milan. Perez also thanked Lucas Vazquez and Jesus Vallejo, highlighting the contribution of the club’s legends.
The president also mentioned the arrival of coach Xabi Alonso, and the combination of experienced and young players in the team. Although Real Madrid has a good start in the Champions League and the Spanish championship, Perez has come down hard in UEFA and La Liga.
– It is not normal and it is not legal to prevent clubs from organizing their own tournaments – he said referring to the Superliga, a competition that Perez wanted to start with Juventus, Barcelona and other big clubs.
Perez also criticized the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, for trying to organize the match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami, which, he claims, violates the rules of the teams’ home and away performances.
Tebas responded via the X social network, pointing out that Perez wrongly claims that only the Superliga can save football and announced a more detailed address on the criticism of La Liga.
