Traffic disorders are growing along the west coast of the United States and Hawaii due to tents issued throughout the silent ocean after a strong earthquake of magnitude 8.8 that hit the eastern coast of Russia.
Honolulu flights are disturbed, and redirects, delays and cancellations were reported on affected airports, according to the FlightRadar24 system.
Flights of various airlines depart from Los Angeles, Vancouver, San Francisco and San Diego towards Hawaii were returned to destination airports late on Tuesday, show tracking data.
Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines delay the departures for Hawaii, redirect some incidental flights and advise passengers to check the status of flights before they go to the airport.
“We reserve Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines on the islands. As a safety measure, flights are returned to the mainland or re-route as needed,” both companies said.
Hawaii open emergency shelters
The Hawaii began to open emergency shelters after the residents were told to evacuate, and the governor warned that the waves of Tsunami would “affect the islands”.
Authorities in Hawaii called on the inhabitants to seek higher grounds, emphasizing that precautions were taken before the approach of Tsunami.
The Mayor of Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, Rick Blangiardi, called the inhabitants to move to several terrains, speaking to the interview for Kitv, CNN branch.
“We need people to stay calm, but also to behave accordingly. If you can climb a more place if you are in the Nizini, do it,” Blangiard said.
Many video recordings of the vehicle columns and people who try to avoid the consequences of Tsunami were published on social networks.
The American coast guard ordered all commercial ships to leave Hawaiian ports and banned all incoming ships entering them until the warnings on Tsunami were abolished.
“All ports in Hawaii are closed for the traffic of incoming vessels. The vessels that transit the Hawaiian Islands or entering Luke on Hawaii will remain on the sea while the conditions are not calmed,” the Ocean District’s Coast Guard Statement.
Los Angeles in standby
Authorities in Los Angeles are in readiness to react to all possible consequences of tsunami along the coast, said Mayor Karen Bass.
“Although the national meteorological service currently stipulates that a wave of earthquakes will be less than 30 cm in the early morning, the city of Los Angeles is taking the necessary preparations for responding to Los Angeles, especially in Los Angeles and coastal communities,” she pointed out.
Among departments who are in preparedness during the night, police and fire battales are stationed in coastal areas.
Emergencies and buses are also in readiness to help in case of any evacuation orders, the mayor’s office said.
