The spring and summer months traditionally bring increased demand for household work, and among the most sought-after services is certainly whitewashing.
Masters are already very busy, and finding a free appointment is often a real challenge. In addition, citizens are increasingly interested in how much such works will cost them.
The new season of painting also brought higher prices for painting services. In Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica and Mostar, citizens today spend between four and seven marks per square meter for standard whitewashing, while a complete service with materials costs from five to eight KM. This means that the owners of a 50-square-meter apartment will have to spend between 550 and 900 marks to refresh the walls, depending on the condition of the walls, the necessary preparatory work and the price of the materials.
According to current market prices, for standard whitewashing of walls and ceilings, with two layers, it is necessary to allocate between six and eight KM per square meter, while the price of smoothing wall surfaces is around 20 KM per square meter. The final price depends on several factors, such as the location, the condition of the surfaces and the experience of the contractor. When it comes to more demanding works, decorative techniques or additional preparation, the costs can be significantly higher.
If you want to repaint the woodwork, it will cost you extra. The price of painting one window is 150 KM, and the same if you want to paint the door.
The prices of whitewashing this season have jumped by 20 percent compared to last year.
Even so, getting a master is difficult. The lack of manpower, the departure of painters out of Bosnia and Herzegovina led to the fact that more and more citizens decide to “take matters into their own hands”.
We checked the prices of whitewashing in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sarajevo – a bigger city and different prices
According to the data of the agencies we contacted in Sarajevo, the price of whitewashing is generally from four to seven marks per square meter without material, and five to eight convertible marks with material. Ultimately, the price of painting a 50 square meter apartment will cost you from 600 to 900 KM.
– In our company, the price is six KM per square meter. That’s the price for whitewashing. If you do smoothing, some repairs on the walls, holes, unevenness, installation of grids and the like, the price is significantly higher. Also, it depends on the customer’s request, which color and technique they want – says a painter from a Sarajevo company that deals with painting works.
But you can also do it cheaper, if you find a painter who works independently, does not pay taxes, and therefore the price of painting is lower.
Tuzla – what is painted is not the same
Prices for whitewashing in Tuzla vary from four to seven KM per square meter. That price includes only “hands”, and the price with the material is from five to eight marks per square meter.
According to the whitewashing agencies, the price of complete whitewashing of a 50 square meter apartment is from 550 to 800 KM.
– It all depends on what you are painting. It’s not the same if you whitewash a factory, a restaurant whose walls are dirty from frying oil, and an apartment that is regularly maintained and just needs to be refreshed. In addition, we also have various client requests. For example, someone is looking for a safari technique. “Safari” (or Sahara) is a popular decorative technique that contains fine sand and creates a luxurious, grainy and glittering look on the walls. It can cost 80 to 90 marks per square meter – says an employee of a painting company from Tuzla.
Zenica – you should have “your own painter”
Prices for plastering in Zenica vary from four to six marks per square meter without material, and from five to seven convertible marks with material. Painting an apartment of 50 square meters usually costs from 500 to 750 KM. But if you’re lucky, you can get by cheaper.
– The price of painting is 3.5 KM with the material. There is work. You must announce the painting at least ten to 15 days in advance. We finish painting a 50 square meter apartment in one day. If you have a well-known master, you don’t have to wait 15 days. Everything goes through acquaintances – says an employee of a company from Zenica that deals with whitewashing.
So, nowadays, it is necessary to have your own painter, as well as your own doctor, dentist, hairdresser.
Banja Luka – the best prices
According to available data, Banja Luka is currently among the more favorable larger cities when it comes to whitewashing.
The price of whitewashing per square meter is from three to six marks per square meter, and the whitewashing of a 50 square meter apartment is from 400 to 600 KM.
– In our company, painting a 50 square meter apartment usually costs 450 KM. There has been an increase in the price of services, due to the increase in the price of materials – says the painter from Banja Luka.
Mostar – it’s hard to find a master
In Mostar, the prices of whitewashing vary from five to seven KM without materials, and six to eight with materials. Thus, you will pay from 600 to 850 KM for painting a 50-square-meter apartment.
But for the people of Mostar and Herzegovina, the biggest problem in the world is that getting to a painter has become an impossible mission. Due to the proximity of Croatia and the Adriatic, most of them went to work in Dalmatia. They say it’s not worth working here. On the other hand, the lack of labor force automatically means higher prices for whitewashing in Herzegovina.
In addition, many companies that professionally engaged in painting services went out of business, because they could not survive from those who work in black. This is confirmed by the fact that many of the companies we called told us exactly that – that they are no longer engaged in this activity.
– In our company, which regularly pays VAT, the price of plastering per square meter is seven KM including material. Believe me, my company also deals with other things, but in the last six months we have not had a single call for the services of a painter – says the owner of a company from Mostar, which also deals with plastering, writes Factor.
