The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, met today in Sarajevo with the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America in BiH, John Ginkel, and the focus of the conversation was the continuation of the implementation of the Southern Gas Interconnection project.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić, Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees Nerin Dizdar, Head of the Economic Department of the US Embassy Sarah Rupert and the new Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Embassy Monica Bland.
As announced by the Government of the Federation of BiH, they discussed the continuation of activities on the implementation of the Southern Gas Interconnection project, where it was emphasized that the harmonization of contractual issues between the investors and the Government of the FBiH is continuing. The commitment was expressed that the contract will be signed soon in order to realize the project in the interest of the citizens and the energy security of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The interlocutors also emphasized the importance of finding suitable solutions for the issue of state property, which would enable more efficient implementation of strategic infrastructure and energy projects, among which the Southern Gas Interconnection is marked as one of the priorities.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina has significant potential for the development of the energy sector, especially in the area of gas infrastructure and renewable energy sources. The belief was expressed that joint action can create conditions for the realization of projects of strategic importance.
At the end of the meeting, the determination to continue partnership cooperation between the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America on projects that contribute to energy stability, economic development and attracting new investments to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was confirmed.
