The beginning of the school year brings a new impact on the budgets of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the growth of food prices and basic foods, the price increase and fireplaces, and the union consumer basket for the family family exceeded 3,500 KM – more than two average salaries.
According to the State Statistical Agency, inflation in BiH has reached the highest level in the last 13 months. The most affects pensioners and parents of multi-member families, who have been balancing home budgets for years.
“Of course it is a challenge and it is certainly that all our members of society, our inhabitants affect the price of the most difficult. Familiaries of several children, especially when they are small, are very difficult,” says Mustafa Vlahovak from the three Plus Family Association. N1 BiH.
The trade union Consumer basket for the family family in August was exactly 3,541.80 KM. It is most spent on the diet – more than 40%, while housing and utilities participate with more than 13% in total costs.
The basket amount is growing from the month in the month for an additional 200 to 300 km. Trade unions in BiH, but also European, advocate that the minimum wage is equal to half of the consumer basket.

The parents of the schoolmobiles are particularly affected. With the beginning of the school year, the costs of equipping children further burden the home budget.
“One mom told us that there were two children in primary and two in high school. It was not enough for her to equip children, with the seasonal change of wardrobe,” he added a moisture.
The three plus family association states that subsidies and fees that help families were introduced in four cantons of FBiH, but it is difficult to follow the pace of price increase.
Firewood has risen by about 10%, while the price of pellets rose 20 to 25%.
“The worst is what prices do not stop growing,” says Muhamed Helać, the manager of the firewood company.
Economists warn that the main culprit is domestic policy.
“The largest contribution to the growth of the price was given by the authorities, its decisions on the price of energy, products and services.
While citizens are waiting for the measures of the authorities, electricity bills have already been increased. In the Federation of BiH, Elektroprivreda BiH has risen electricity at the beginning of the month, while in the Republika Srpska price increased since January. From the next year, a new increase is possible up to 20%.
